The economy of Kyrgyzstan is characterized by a combination of agriculture and industry. Key industrial sectors include hydroelectric power, non-ferrous metallurgy, mining, machinery manufacturing, instrument-making, as well as light and food industries. Machinery production is predominantly concentrated in the northern regions, while the southern regions. Here are also concentrated the largest enterprises of the light industry (knitwear, clothing, leather, and footwear factories). The southern regions, particularly the Osh area, are known for non-ferrous metallurgy and serve as a major hub for silk and cotton industries. Additionally, the republic has a significant cement production sector. The food industry, which produces goods such as meat, cream cheese, sugar, and tobacco, relies heavily on locally sourced agricultural raw materials.
